Cafe Mollien Pendant 18365
"In front of you, a long series of painting rooms. Behind you, an endless view overlooking the Tuileries Garden. At your feet, a grand stone and bronze staircase. In the air, the floating soul of the Mona Lisa. What must be added in such a scene? We must let our eyes relax to see the best views over Paris and the paintings in the museum. Cafe Mollien needed to be a light area, a space to breathe" ML

Mathieu Lehanneur adds his signature humanistic approach to the Café Mollien, a new link between the Tuileries Gardens and the masterpieces of the Louvre Museum. Located in the Denon Hall, the monumental 150 m2 space featuring high ceilings, a tiled marble floor and large columns is now home to a sensitively designed café.

Following Lehanneur's recent commission: the Café ArtScience Boston, he now joins the most prestigious Parisian monument and museum. Café Mollien consists of two adjoining rooms and a terrace of 230 m2 offering a wonderful view of the Louvre Pyramid. The interior space can seat 66 and is structured around a 4 metre high acrylic and brushed brass lighting display designed by Lehanneur specifically for the Cafe. The designer describes them as 'three large pale pink eggs, light and graceful floating in the air. They fill the space and delicately separate us from the ceiling.'
Lacquered matte white wooden and fabric benches fit in the alcoves of the tall windows alongside a white marble 10 metre long bar which gives rhythm to the space.

In this project Mathieu Lehanneur demonstrates his capability to understand and respond to the iconic monuments of our heritage. Further examples such as the Church of Melle (UNESCO World Heritage), the Château Borely in Marseille and the Grand Palais reconstruction in Paris are all testiment to Lehanneur's creative and thought provoking abilities.
